What goes around, comes around.
His panting echoed through the stone building walls, knowing that I was only a step behind him. It was too risky to take him out, but I couldn't afford for him to sleek away into the crowd of the public. If I took him in the view of public, I would lose my own head and the endless cycle of the hunt would come to an end.
My alliances were destroyed, the circular wall of protection had crumbled away. Everything had been taken away from me by the man I once called friend.
He had leaked our plan to the cops, which lead to a massacre of my team. Leaving me, my love, and a few bags of cash to escape in a hot wired car.
Discarding my jacket, I knew that there was no future use I could possible get out of it. After this, it would be my turn to run, for what goes around, will definitely come around.
As I ran I could feel the beating of the rings which were once worn by dead comrades. The ring was a symbol of our loyalty and friendship to each other. For each of their deaths, I will avenge in this single kill. The kill of a dead friend who betrayed and sent them to their graves.
Another corner I passed and I saw him scurrying away like a rat, getting closer and closer to the street. Closer to freedom. He was wrong. I am already a dead man, and with this kill it would help me pass onto the next life.
Closer and closer he got to the street, I could already imagine the lights shining brightly in his eyes. I quickened my pace, ready for the kill. I pulled myself into position and pulled the trigger. Within seconds my past friend flew into the air, blood shooting out and fell onto the sidewalk next to a middle-aged couple. It all seemed to go in slow motion- as the body fell to the ground, the blood, and the horrified expressions coming from the couple. I was pulled back into reality with an earsplitting scream from the woman. I turned to run, knowing that sooner or later the cops would be on my tail.
I didn't stop, the yells and cries dying away in the background. The rings beated against my heart, urging me to go on. I knew what was coming for me. Death was coming, there was no way around it. All the men I had killed, were now coming after my life. It s an endless cycle of murder which would not end until I was gunned down.
Jumping the stairs, I had finally made it to my hideout. Inside, my love would be there waiting for me. She was my last tie of trust, but I wasn't naïve. I knew what was coming for me on the other side of the door.
Opening the door, I saw the one woman I had ever felt safe around. She stood before me. Her face was blotchy, eyes red and her make up was ruined. In one hand was a chain with the ring I had given to her. The other held the pistol I had given her.
We said nothing, I took a step towards her, but a gentle click stopped me in my tracks. I had lost her.
With a quick movement she tossed the chain into the air and it landed by my feet. I kept my eyes on her as I bent down to pick it up.
I had lost her...
This was the endless cycle. She had betrayed me. I had lost everything worth living for...I had lost her.
I began to straighten myself up, my eyes locked on hers. I saw her sadness. The sadness of her lost friend. The sadness of her lost life. The sadness of her lost love.
Tears overwhelmed her, knowing what she had done, and what was going to be done. She was strong woman, and I knew that she would pull through.
I knew she was sorry...with the look in her eye.
But I still loved her, and I thanked her for breaking the endless cycle I was trapped in.
